Stockhorn
To escape the winter fog, take a 20-minute drive to Erlenbach im Simmental and then take the gondola to the Stockhorn.
In Chrindi, the intermediate station of the Stockhorn gondola, you get off and can easily rent snowshoes on site (CHF 25.- per day incl. hiking poles). The large snowshoe trail (Chrindi, Berggasthaus Oberstockenalp, Oberstockensee, Chrindi) is already marked. The hiking time is about 3 hours. The trail is very varied: the route through the forest resembles a storybook; behind the snow-covered meadows the mountain peaks come into view and along the lake (if there is enough ice on the lake you can walk over it) you have the feeling of being the first to conquer the mountain. On the Stockhorn, despite a lot of activity, one gets the feeling to be alone in the untouched nature.
The Panorama Restaurant at the top station not only offers a breathtaking view of the Bernese Alps, but also fine and tasty Swiss cuisine. In winter, you can dine and party until sunset, then take the last gondola ride back down to the valley in comfort.
